i have two cats their names r smokey and the bandit. one is a grey tabby and the other is white with a grey band on his head. anyways. i have two questions. i got them last july when my other cat died and they were about 5 or 6 weeks old. so when should i start to ween them from kitten food. and second smokey weighs 7 pounds and bandit weighs 10 is their a reason they r this small i mean they r almost a year old and they r so little it just kind of concerns mePlease Help i reeally need advice about my cats?
7 to 10 pounds is normal weight for a house cat. A lot of cats today are overweight. As long as they are active, playful, and look healthy )i.e. no ribs showing, healthy coat, etc.) you do not need to worry. Cats should be thin and sleak, not pudgy. 1 extra pound on a cat is like 10 extra pounds on you! As far as switching food, check the label on the bag. It should say waht age to start switching. Also, you do not want to just cahnge all at once, but do it gradually. Add a little adult food in with the kitten food at first, then gradually up the amount of adult and lower the amount of kitten food until you phase out the kitten food. A sudden change can cause stomache upset and they may not eat anything. If they do shy from the adult food mixed in at first, don't worry. They should eventually get used to it. If not, try again with a different kind. Please Help i reeally need advice about my cats?
I weened my cat off kitten food when she turned a year old. Weight can sometimes depend on their sex. Female cats are usually smaller and male cats are normally larger. Do not give cats human food. Thats a bad idea for any animal.
the weight is not an issue... mine are ages 10 (9lbs.), 5 (10lbs.) and 2.5 (15lbs).... kitten food is always good for the first year and a half... when we got our youngest, we started him off on big kitty food, because we were told not to have the others eat the kitten food, which was hard, so we opted to use big kitty food.... i grew up with all outdoor cats and the babies were taught to eat big cat food and there were no problems with them. It's up to you if you want to try the kitten food, but once you pick a big cat food after the kitten food, you'll want it to stay the same kind, don't mix it up for them at all.
Your cats should be plenty old enough now to eat adult cat food, they are teenagers. Just get some made for adult cats and start to mix it with their kitten food. They seem to be a normal wieght for cats. They vary like humans. It sounds like they are doing fine.
