hey guys i have a 7 1/2 yr old female yellow lab, who's very happy and still acts like a puppy, but is in the upper 80 lbs. She has some fatty deposits around, so were trying to lower her weight. We try to walk her twice a day but is there anything we can do with her diet to help her lower her weight?Dog obesity advice....help!?
Cut the carbs and starches. More meat, less grains.Dog obesity advice....help!?
Walking is great, but maybe make it a little longer if its not helping yet. A dog around 80lbs should have only around 4-5 cups of food a day, but maybe take away a cup until she's at a healthy weight.and also, up playtime by about ten minutes, this should alao help! Go to your local petsmart, and someone can help you find a better diet food, if your dog isn't already on one. Science diet is what my dogs are on,its a couple bucks more, but its worth it to give your pet a long and healthy life!.
If you are free feeding, put a stop to it and go to regular meals (like breakfast and dinner). Also look at the kind of food you are feeding, and possibly the amounts. Even removing 1/2 a cup a day of high quality food can have a significant result for weight loss. Make sure to feed even portions twice a day, and adjust as necessary to maintain ideal weight once you get to that point.
Edit: By high quality foods, I'm talking about Wellness, Solid Gold, Blue Buffalo etc. To see how your food stacks up try: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/
Is she spayed? If so cut 10% off her food rations. She needs to run around as well as walk. Get her a football %26amp; throw toys they will help her lose weight.
you could gradually shift her to a low-cal dog food. and instead of walks twice a day, try three. or take her to a dog park and let her run around a few times a week. get her more exercise.
feed better food, feed LESS
and walking is not exercise for a lab.. she needs to run lose and swim if you have places that you can do that at
Make sure you are measuring out her food for her ideal weight. It should say on the side of the package and ask your vet but feed her a good quality food with no grain
You fed her to much food. That is why she is fat. Why did you do that?
shot at it with a 30-30 or a 12 guage or use the bumper of your car to encourage it to get off its fat lazy ***
